We shall soon be returning to some sort of normality when the restrictions are lifted on the 19th July.

We shall keep you posted on what will be happening inside The Jolly, and how we will be operating once we have finalised all the details.

Looking forward to seeing you all real soon!

Garry, Zoe and all the staff.

We are looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming you all back!

As from Monday the 10th May, we will be opened outside for drinks only.

Opening times will be 12:00 - 21:00 until Sunday the 16th May.

From Monday 17th May, we will then be opening the inside and starting our food service. Opening times from the 17th onwards will be...

Sunday - Thursday 12:00 - 23:00

Friday - Saturday 12:00 - 00:00

As we are a pub that serves food, we pride ourselves on keeping the ambience of a local pub. We don't want to detract from the wonderful cosy atmosphere and, therefore, we won't be taking table bookings, inside or out. We think this is a fair sacrifice to make to keep our establishment pub-like.

Please be aware that we do get very busy so turning up earlier, rather than later, will help you to find a table.

Things have changed a little since you last saw us. We have new Lunchtime and Evening menus, the staff have nice new uniforms and we have our new 2021 T-Shirts and Mugs to purchase.

We have also commissioned a new sign for the end or our pub. Painted by a fantastic local artist, Annie Archer, it captures the essence of the pub. We have brought back the traditional Ship logo, but this time we have linked our sign with the very beam you can find in the pub.

Yes, the ship on our sign (and the beam itself) is Hownblower's own ship, the HMS Indefatigable. We think that is a lovely link and really brings the history of The Jolly to life.

See you real soon!

Garry, Zoe and all the staff.

From Saturday 3rd October, The Jolly Sailor Inn will be changing the menu to our winter warmer menu.

As the nights draw in and the fires are lit, we want to introduce you to our new dishes for those cosy nights.

First we have the Chicken Tikka Masala. Adapted from a traditional recipe, this homemade Tikka Masala is made using authentic spices and methods. Filled with chunks of chicken, pepper, mushroom and onion and served with rice and a homemade flatbread, this is a taste sensation.

Next up is the baby Back Ribs. Served with our famous extra thick chips and a Homemade Spiced Rum BBQ sauce, this is a finger licking treat!

Finally, we have the Boeuf Bourguignon. Braised flank of beef, smoked bacon and button onions cooked in a rich jus. Served with creamy mash, this is a beautifully robust dish, suited to the colder evenings.

So come along on Saturday and try our delicious new range of home cooked food.

See you soon.

From Saturday 1st August, The Jolly Sailor Inn will once again be serving food!

We trialled this back in November last year and it was a resounding success.

After COVID times, we decided to introduce things slowly and now we are ready to introduce our new menu.

We still have our lovely homemade chilli, delicious sausage and mash and tasty hand pressed burgers but we have added a few items.

We how have scampi, homemade mini pizzas and our pies are now completely homemade. We have also added fish goujons for the kids, caught by our own fair hands! Yes... we actually go out fishing and catch your fish! That's dedication for you!

So come along on Saturday and try our delicious range of home cooked food.

See you soon.

From Monday 6th July, we shall be opening the inside of The Jolly Sailor Inn!

We have amended our opening times and these are as follows:
Sunday to Thursday – 12:00 til 22:00
Friday & Saturday – 12:00 til 00:00

PLEASE NOTE – Instead of bookings we shall be asking everyone to wait at the front door for a team member to seat you. Orders will be taken and brought to your table.
We may over time change this depending on how it works so please bear with us. We shall do our best to get this right for everyone.

The new outside area with our beautiful new outside bar will continue to be an “order at the bar” system and you are welcome to come around to the back and find a seat yourselves.

Things will be different but we hope that you will enjoy being back in The Jolly. We have worked hard on making the place look amazing (you’ve all see the paintwork outside but we can’t wait for you to see the inside too) and keeping it safe for our loyal locals and visitors alike.
