Home - The Jolly Sailor

So you want to know a little bit more about the Jolly?

If you’ve read the introduction on the Home page, you will already know that the Jolly Sailor is one of the oldest pubs in the UK and has been a place of rest and recreation for seafarers and travellers alike for centuries. But what can you expect if you visit this inviting pub in Looe in Cornwall today?

The bar

Bar07

The heart of any inn is of course its bar, and the Jolly’s bar is a fine example of the olde English style, with dark timber beams supporting the low roof and a roaring log burner to warm the cockles on those cold coastal evenings.

Bar05

The main beam in the bar of the Jolly was taken from a French ship of the line at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The ship was captured and renamed The Indefatigable. When she was later broken up, the landlord of the time arranged for the beam to be installed in the bar and it remains there to this day.

Bar03

Behind the bar, a comprehensive selection of beers, wines and spirits are served with lagers, ciders and real ales available on draught.

Bar09

For entertainment there is a slate-bottomed pool table and regular live music events that draw in many musicians from the local area.

Rooms at the inn

The rooms at the Jolly Sailor have been refurbished to a very high standard, providing a most pleasant place to base yourself when staying in the picturesque Cornish harbour town of Looe. It’s noted in many Cornish books and old stories that the historic rooms of the Jolly are haunted, but you aren’t afraid of ghosts... are you?

All rooms have spacious en-suite facilities and include a full English breakfast. For more information about rooms and availability at the Jolly Sailor, click here.
